Watch Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

The 1-0 Chicago Bears play host to the 0-1 Minnesota Vikings in an NFC North battle on the week two schedule of the 2013 NFL football season. Minnesota has historically struggled at Soldier Field, while the Bears picked up defensively in week one where they left off last year. The Bears offense was much more effective in week one than all of last season. Jay Cutler led his team to a come-from-behind win by tallying 242 yards and two touchdown passes with one interception. The most impressive stat for Cutler is that he wasn’t sacked a single time after spending much of last season picking himself up off the ground. Credit the Bears revamped offensive line for doing their job.

That offensive line also let Matt Forte run for 104 yards, while the defense was up to its old tricks again in recording three takeaways against the Bengals last week to aid in their win. Over the past 12 games against the Vikings at home, Chicago was won 11 times and taken the ball away a total of 31 times.

Minnesota lost 34-24 against the Lions last week and coughed up the ball four times from Christian Ponder mistakes. Chicago will be after Ponder hard today and looking to force even more turnovers, which means Minnesota may look to use their running game early and not pressure Ponder into making plays and forcing bad decisions.

Last year’s MVP Adrian Peterson had a very un-MVP like performance last week with only 93 yards rushing. That might be a decent game for most running backs, but when 78 of those yards came on his first run of the game, 15 yards for the remainder of the game is poor by any runner’s standards. Against this Bears defense, Minnesota will need Peterson to be effective and keep the defense off balance.

Until Christian Ponder can prove he’s not prone to turnovers, I wouldn’t bet on the Vikings winning in Chicago on any day. This game has Bears going 2-0 written all over it and I’m going to go with the favorite and call for a 24-17 Chicago win.
