The Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers are each playing for their first victory of the 2013 NFL football season in a week two match up of projected playoff teams at cheese head-filled Lambeau Field on Fox. The Redskins came out flatter than a stampeded pancake against the Eagles on Monday Night Football and only made the final score close by putting points on the board after the game was essentially already over. Robert Griffin III (RG3) got his first game action after missing the preseason and looked rusty. A running attack led by Alfred Morris that was dominant last season and shut down completely to start this one didn’t help Griffin or his team’s cause.
Michael Vick was able to pick apart the Redskins defense and ended up putting 33 points on the board in the win. Vick didn’t need to run much to get the job done, either. Instead, the Eagles sped up the game — especially in the first half — and their hurry up offense gave the Redskins complete fits. Washington will see some of this uptempo offense from the Packers today as well.
Green Bay faced the 49ers in week 1 and were determined to ensure Colin Kaepernick didn’t run all over them. Unfortunately for the Packers, Kaepernick chose to stay in the pocket instead and picked them apart through the air. It was a pick your poison situation for the Packers and in the end the NFC champion’s quarterback put 34 points on the board.
The Packers offense was feast or famine against the 49ers. When they were on, they were on, to the tune of four touchdown drives rattled off in a mere 8 minutes and 21 seconds. This included three touchdown passed from Aaron Rodgers and 333 yards passing on the game. For the rest of Green Bay’s drives they were completely ineffective including five three-and-outs in eight possessions.
Washington looked the rustier team in week one in every facet of the game. Only when Philadelphia slowed down after stretching a huge lead could the Redskins get anything going on offense. The Packers were sharper, and with them playing at home and with Aaron Rogers hot, I predict Green Bay will win this game by at least a 10 point margin.
