Tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football game on ESPN should make up for the primetime match a week ago that featured a pair of basement dwellers. The 7-4 New York Giants hope to keep their lead in the NFC East at a comfortable two games, while the sneaky Washington Redskins have an opportunity to turn the division crown race into a three-team heat all the way down the stretch.
All eyes will be on Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III tonight after he tossed four touchdown passes against the Dallas Cowboys last week to help keep his team in the race. The last time the Redskins faced the Giants, they narrowly lost 27-23 in New York and Griffin III threw for 258 yards and ran for another 89.
Unfortunately for the Giants, Griffin III and the Redskins offense are more potent now than that earlier match this season. In addition to tossing four touchdowns last week, Griffin III threw four five days earlier for eight TDs in less than a week. With Pierre Garcon back in the mix after missing the earlier match up, the Giants secondary will have their hands full.
Coming in under the radar tonight is Eli Manning who tossed a 77-yard touchdown to Victor Cruz with less than two minutes to go in that win over Washington. The Redskins secondary, statistically one of the worst in the league, let Cruz get wide open for an easy score. Last week the Giants snapped a skid by thumping the Packers 38-10 proving they too are in a mode to put a lot of points on the board.
If the Redskins win tonight, they will keep pace with the Dallas Cowboys who beat the Philadelphia Eagles last night. This scenario would also pull the Cowboys and Redskins to within one game of the Giants and set up an exciting finish to the season to see who can come out on top of the NFC East.
Tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins will be televised in HD high definition on ESPN. Those of you with cable access can watch a free live streaming version of the game on your tablet, mobile phone or other similar mobile device here at ESPN.com. Kickoff for tonight’s meaningful playoff game in the NFC East gets underway at 8:30pm EST. My prediction is the Redskins rally behind their fans and avenge the loss earlier this season with last minute heroics to secure a slim one point win.
