The New England Patriots are one of several 4-0 undefeated teams remaining standing in the NFL in 2013, but they’ve been the shakiest of the elite group as Tom Brady continues to work into form with a young receiving corps gaining experience with each successive game. The Cincinnati Bengals are better than their 2-2 record indicates, and must topple Brady at home to avoid sliding to 2-3 and raising questions about missing the playoffs after being ousted last year in the Wildcard game. The Patriots enter this week with an unfortunate black mark on their roster as five-time Pro Bowler Vince Wilfork is out for the remainder of the season. He has been the crutch of the Patriots defense and it’s unclear how his teammates will react and step up with him gone. Undrafted rookie Joe Vellano and Chris Jones will split time in Wilfork’s place, but they won’t be able to match Wilfork’s production on the defensive line.
Brady and his young receivers will take on a Bengals defense that hasn’t lived up to expectations this season. In his career, Brady has won all four of his games against the Bengals and the Patriots as a team have won seven of eight. Brady apparently likes playing Cincinnati as he has thrown 10 touchdown passes and completed nearly 70 percent of his throws in those four games.
The Bengals were supposed to have an effective offense but they have struggled of late. Quarterback Andy Dalton was poor in a 17-6 loss to the Browns last week with 206 yards passing on 23 of 42 attempts. He also threw an interception and failed to put a touchdown on the board. Wide receiver A.J. Green, after a big week 1 game, has only average 46 yards per game since. He will be looking to break out in week 5 and get back up over 100 yards receiving where someone with his skills belongs.
Bengals fans are demanding more from Dalton and they should. Dalton currently ranks 22nd in the league in offense at 327.5 yards per game, and he has personally turned the ball over six times in the last two games including a pair of fumbles. The Bengals don’t stand a chance of winning today unless Dalton can get it going, and the absence of Wilfork on the Patriots defensive line might give Dalton and his squad a little extra incentive to turn up the heat and start moving the ball.
Today’s Sunday early NFL Football game between the undefeated New England Patriots and struggling Cincinnati Bengals will formally kick off at 1pm EST / 10am PST in high definition (HD) on CBS. In order to watch a free live online streaming version of this game, you will need to have access to NFL Sunday Ticket with the Max extension for football streaming and check in right here to watch via cell phones and other mobile devices. I predict the Patriots get the best of the Bengals on the road and push their 2013 record to 5-0 on the season by a final score of 24-12 thanks to some timely turnovers.
