The New Orleans Saints facing the Atlanta Falcons was a fantastic pairing on the 2013 NFL week 12 schedule before the season kicked off, but now it’s merely a road bump due to Atlanta’s struggles. Watch Saints vs Falcons online stream live football game on NFL Network (not ESPN) by following the links below to see the Falcons can snap out of their funk and put up a good fight.
The 8-2 Saints have won back-to-back games after losing a heartbreaker 26-20 to the New York Jets. Two weeks ago they faced the Dallas Cowboys and routed them 49-17 in a dominant evening performnace. Last week they played the 49ers and came away with a hard fought 23-20 victory. It’s a long cry from the miserable season the Saints experienced a year ago that kept them out of the playoffs.
Likewise the Falcons were rolling last year and were atop the NFC. This season has been an entirely different story despite the signing of running back Steven Jackson as the Falcons are toward the bottom of the league with a 2-8 record and have been beaten by an average of 20 points in their last three games against the Buccaneers, Seahawks and Panthers.
Part of the reason for this role reversal between the Saints and Falcons is the return of Sean Payton to the New Orleans coaching staff and Rob Ryan signing on as defensive coordinator. Ryan has whipped the defense into shape to become as dangerous as the Drew Brees-led offense and the results speak for themselves. The Saints are 1.5 games behind the Seahawks in the NFC and can take another step toward home field advantage when we watch Thursday Night Football online free live streaming on NFL Network tonight.
The Falcons and Saints met in the opening game of the 2013 NFL season and it was a closely fought battle. Atlanta had a 10-point lead at one point until the Saints rallied back and won 23-17. That was then and this is now with oddsmakers having the Saints winning by nearly 10 points. It’s not that the Falcons have a bad team. They haven’t been executing and could theoretically turn it on and return to form at any moment.
With the way Brees is playing right now the Falcons may not have a chance to win. Brees has thrown for 3,369 yards and 26 touchdown passes this season. The only quarterback in the NFL with better numbers is none other than Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos. Brees might have the same numbers if he had the same caliber of receivers that Manning does.
The way Atlanta’s defense is playing right now, Brees might end up having the game of his career despite playing on the road. The Falcons defense has given up an average of nearly 30 points per game this season including a whopping 108 points coughed up in their past three games, all losses. Brees has a touchdown pass in 14 straight games so there’s no reason to believe that streak will stop tonight.
