Watch Florida vs UConn Basketball 2014

The top ranked Florida Gators are set to do battle with the Connecticut Huskies in the first of two NCAA Tournament Final Four basketball games on Saturday evening from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Gators are riding a 30-game win streak and will put it on the line against a seventh seeded Huskies squad for a chance to reach the national championship game.

Florida’s win streak was a small topic of conversation during the early games in the NCAA Tournament as Wichita State’s unbeaten streak got more press. After Wichita State was eliminated, Florida’s win streak kept chugging along and now stands at 30 games strong. The last time they lost a game was only a week removed from Thanksgiving of last year.

The Gators have only lost twice this entire season and ironically one of those losses came against the UConn Huskies. That thriller was decided in the final second as UConn star Shabazz Napier drilled a jump shot at the buzzer that gave the Huskies a 65-64 win. Florida will be out for revenge today to both extend their streak and play in the finals.

The Gators UConn game earlier didn’t feature a full-strength Florida team. Freshman forward Chris Walker hadn’t yet been cleared to play due to eligibility issues. Freshman guard Kasey Hill has sidelined with an ankle injury. And guard Scottie Wilbekin was only playing in this third game after being suspended for the first four. He was injured with over three minutes left and did not return to the game for the critical final plays.

Florida will need to contain Napier if they hope to win today. In addition to the dagger that Napier served up in the earlier game, he has led the Huskies in scoring, rebounds and assists. Napier hasn’t scored less than 19 points in any of the Connecticut NCAA Tournament games thus far and has been a force to contend with for every opponent he has faced.

Wilbekin will key the Gators offense, especially after he led the charage against Dayton in the previous round with 23 points and a solid all-around game. The 23 points was a career high and Wilbekin seems to be getting stronger as the tournament has gone on. He’s love nothing more than to help Florida extend its school-record win streak.
