The WGC-Cadillac Championship was wet for all the wrong reasons in Round 1 as play was suspended due to inclement weather, leaving several players including defending champ Tiger Woods with extra holes to complete today. All but six players will have an extended Round 2 on Friday when we watch Cadillac Championship Golf Channel online or on TV.
The verdict on the Blue Monster course at Doral, in which major renovations including all 18 greens were implemented over the past year, is still out. Only six players were able to complete all 18 holes on Thursday before storms cancelled play, and of those, Harris English sits atop the leaderboard at -3 tied with four other players with incomplete first rounds.
Adam Scott entered the Cadillac Championship needing to win and see Tiger Woods finish worse than fifth to rank number one in the world for the first time. He played 10 holes on Thursday and stands at -2.
Rory McIlroy, fresh off his collapse at the Honda Classic last weekend, has played through 14 holes and currently stands at -1. The new greens combined with slick conditions made birdies a premium as these scores suggest. Tiger Woods told reporters he felt good after warming up and being delayed. Through 10 holes, Woods was 2-over par including a bogey on his last hole that required three putts to close out. Yet more evidence that the golfers haven’t figured out the new greens as of yet.
Not on the leaderboard is Jason Day who withdrew from the Cadillac Championship before his Round 1 play began due to a sore left thumb.
Assuming the weather cooperates, Thursday’s suspended Round 1 will resume at a start time of 8:45am EST / 5:45am PST. However, Cadillac Championship online stream and TV coverage won’t kick in until Round 2 is underway.
