A&E’s Bates Motel Season 2 premiere had more Bradley (Nicola Peltz) than expected and that turned out to be a good thing.
The murder of Miss Watson in the Season 1 finale hit Norman (Freddie Highmore) especially hard. Four months later he’s still obsessing over his former teacher, to the point where Norma (Vera Farmiga) is concerned that he’s more interested with focusing on the dead than the living.
Norman is also still obsessed with Bradley though he’s unable to see her. It turns out Bradley was so distraught over discovering that her dad was cheating on her mom that she threw herself off a bridge in a suicide attempt. She survived and landed in a mental institution instead, refusing to open any of the daily letters that Norman sent her way.
Once let out, Bradley goes on a mission to learn more about who killed her father. This leads her to Dylan’s (Max Thieriot) boss, a man not to be messed with. But Bradley has nothing to lose and starts to seduce him, pulls out a gun, and blows his brains out.
With nowhere else to turn, Bradley sneaks into Norman’s bedroom and asks for his help following Norman offering it earlier in the episode. It was a lot of Bradley to take in, and Peltz nailed the roller coaster of emotions from psychotic to vengeful, seductive to frightened.
The official synopsis for tonight’s new episode of Bates Motel reads, “Norma tries to distract Norman from his obsession with Miss Watson by auditioning for a play. A new player in town has Dylan and Remo on edge.”
