The 2014 March Madness NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament finally has its first tip-off of the 64-team brackets on Thursday as the Ohio State Buckeyes (6) face the Dayton Flyers (11) at a start time of 12:15pm EST in the first game.
Ohio State was at one point undefeated with a 15-0 record and nationally ranked in the top three. The reason they are only ranked sixth in March Madness is because many feel their opponents were on the soft side throughout the season, and they exited the Big Ten Tournament with a loss in the semifinals.
The last time Ohio State and Dayton played each other was in the third round of the 2008 NIT tournament. In that game, the Buckeyes won 74-63. These are two completely different teams now so history shouldn’t have any impact on the outcome of this game.
Dayton has struggled this season when they scored 69 or fewer points per game. In those games their record is only 4-7.
On the flip side, the Buckeyes are 25-3 when holding their opponents to 69 or fewer points per game. Ohio State thrives off their defense in allowing 59.8 points per game on average, good enough for seventh in the nation.
