Carolina comes in understanding that the Seahawks have dropped six straight road games to open seasons and historically they have been prone to penalties on the road. Last season, the Panthers could only muster 190 total yards of offense against the Seahawks, not even close to enough to win. The Panthers will be looking to avoid a third straight 2-8 start.
A big question mark for the Panthers is which Cam Newton will show up. Newton has shown flashes of brilliance during his young career, but he’s also shown poor decision making skills at times and has a losing 13-19 record as a starter. New offensive coordinator Mike Shula might help Newton get back on track. If he can’t, then Carolina might be looking in another direction by season’s end.
The Seahawks are the better team on paper and it’s about time they snap their road losing record in week one. I predict they will win a tight game by a score of 20-17.
