THQ has announced a game based on “The Sopranos” will be released this holiday season for Xbox 360 and Playstation 2. Since the Sopranos is HBO’s golden child you can expect all the key actors to provide their voices including James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano and input from series creator David Chase on the story.
Much like ascending the ranks in “The Godfather” game from EA, you’ll play illegitimate son of “Big Pussy” who must prove himself in Tony’s organization by carrying out various tasks assigned by Paulie, Silvio, Christopher and Tony to earn money. Major locales seen in the show like like Bada Bing!, Nuovo Vesuvio’s and Satriale’s will comprise your stomping grounds. The real trick for THQ will be making the gameplay enjoyable and not an unwanted clone of “The Godfather.”
“The Sopranos” has not yet been rated but I’d be shocked if THQ went mainstream and cut out the over-the-top violence and language. This should be a rated M for Mature title all the way.
We’ll have first impressions from the THQ booth at E3 next Wednesday.
