An article at Sound & Vision Online claims Sony has recently committed to re-releasing “The Fifth Element” on Blu-ray Disc with the pristine image consumers expected to find when it debuted on BD in June.
If this is true, our hats are partially off to Sony for listening to the outcry from fans and doing something to fix the problem, rather than sitting on the sideline and collecting a paycheck for using inferior original prints for a supposed superior video techonology. I’d like to see them take their apology a step further and offer a substantial rebate if not free trade-in to customers who purchased the first “The Fifth Element” Blu-ray Disc and other Sony/MGM titles marred by similar video issues.
We’ll have more news on this developing story as it becomes available.
