North Dakota State vs San Diego State Basketball 2014

The North Dakota State Bison and San Diego State Aztecs have a war story to share before tip-off today as each team needed overtime to reach this point in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. NDSU now looks for a second straight monumental upset when we watch San Diego State vs North Dakota State on TNT tonight.

On Thursday night, Lawrence Alexander of NDSU fired off a three-pointer that tied up the score against Oklahoma that sent the game to overtime. The Bison eventually won in overtime and provided one of several big upsets scattered throughout Round 2 of March Madness.

Alexander stepped up for North Dakota State when they needed him most. He scored a career-high 28 points against Oklahoma and helped steer them to victory. To put his performance in perspective, Alexander had only scored 27 combined points in his previous four games played.

San Diego State also needed overtime to win their Round 2 game. Over their past 18 games that have gone to overtime, SDS has won 17 of them for an incredibly high winning percentage in the extra frame. NDSU would just assume this game be decided in regulation rather than the fifth quarter.

The key match up today is San Diego’s defense against NDSU’s offense. The Aztecs were second in the nation at allowing only 57 points per game on average. The Bison meanwhile had the best shooting percentage in the country and showed their offensive prowess against Oklahoma by shooting 52.9 percent from the field.

If there’s a Cinderella story to reach the Sweet 16 then it’s probably NDSU, especially if they can control the ball inside and keep Alexander from dominating the boards.
