Week 8 saw things almost as they should be in the NFL for the first time all season. That means the House beat the membership, and the Madden sim picks sucked. The House posted 10 wins to the members’ 9. After eight weeks, the score is 4 to 2 in favor of the members, with two pushes. Everybody’s favorite sim, NFL Madden 08 on the Xbox 360, came in with a 3-10 record.
After 8 weeks of the 2007 regular season, the numbers are:
* | TheManRoom | Madden Sim | Members |
Week 8: | 10-3 | 3-10 | 9-4 |
2007 Overall: | 70-46 | 56-60 | 72-44 |
The Challenge
A whopping five games were disagreed with this week, three of them fell on the side of the House. I do take exception with one of them though… with the team healthy for the first time all season long, the House pick of the Rams getting their first win of the season WAS the correct one to make. After missing most of the season with injury, Stephen Jackson came in and helped the Rams control the ball and score 2 quick TDs. He then proceeded to get a brand new injury and leave the game and the downward spiral of the Rams continued to the tune of a 27-20 loss.
Three members tied this week with 13 wins apiece. Ironically enough, all three picked the Broncos to win on Monday night. Since he has the best pick record so far this year of the three, brianj1221 is this week’s prize winner. He has won Hellboy: Sword of Storms on DVD, and a $10 iTunes gift card courtesy of New Line Home Entertainment. Great week! It really should have been a perfect week for you and the other guys but a certain AARP candidate chucked up a prayer in overtime to beat you.
The League
Nothing new to report this week in NFL land. Its the same old story of two teams… the Pats** and the Colts. In week 8, one of them ran up the score on a hall of fame coach (sorry Belidick*, you still can’t carry Gibbs’ jock) and the other brought the dogs in fairly early in the contest in teh classic show of sportsmanship. The two finally square off for the first time this season in the upcoming weekend, so we’ll see which comes out victorious, the class acts or the bullies. This is the NFL though and the assholes have been winning since it’s inception. I think this will remain the case… at least for this next contest.
Fantasy Land
The top QB spot didn’t budge again this week as the boy wonder strikes again. This week it was 2 rushing TDs that put him over the likes of Drew Brees, who had 4 TDs, and Derek Anderson. Wes Welker was finally knocked out of the top receiver slot by Marques Colston, who caught 3 of Brees’ TDs. Joseph Addai and Antonio Cromartie round off the other top fantasy categories.
The top fantasy performances in week 8 were:
Quarterback:
Tom Brady – New Engalnd Patriots*
In 52-7 win over the Miami Dolphins
Running Back:
Joseph Addai – Indianapolis Colts
In 31-7 win over the Carolina Panthers
Receivers:
Marques Colston – New Orleans Saints
In 31-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers
Defense:
Antonio Cromartie – San Diego Chargers
In 35-10 win over the Houston Texans
Clunker of the week:
Matt Schaub – Houston Texans
In 35-10 loss to the San Diego Chargers
