NFL Week 10 Recap

It was another quirky week of NFL football, but when the smoke cleared, the House emerged with a rare victory. The members posted 6 wins to the House’s 7, ooooh. After eight weeks, the score is 5 to 3 in favor of the members, with two pushes. Everybody’s favorite sim, NFL Madden 08 on the Xbox 360, came in with a 5-9 record.

After 10 weeks of the 2007 regular season, the numbers are:

The Challenge
Five games were disagreed with this week as three of them went the way that the House predicted… not that it matters very much. It was another dreadful pick week for all involved.

Two members tied this week with 10 wins apiece. Since he has the best pick record so far this year, leeg is this week’s prize winner. He has won Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny on DVD, courtesy of New Line Home Entertainment.

The League
Many favorites fell this week, including a team we could usually count on in previous weeks, the Indianapolis Colts. Mr. Manning threw 6 interceptions en route to a prime-time loss. No, I’m not talking about Eli either.

A team we might be able to start relying on winning each week is the Dallas Cowboys. It seems like they are handily beating any NFC team they are playing each week. After their surgical dismantling of the New York Giants, it looks like the NFC is a two-horse race between the Packers and Cowboys. I’m still not sold on Green Bay though.

Next week it’s back to your regularly-scheduled Patriot* asskicking.

Fantasy Land
No Patriot* can be found in the fantasy stat leaders this week, but that is simply because they were on their bye. This week, two Philadelphia Eagles grace the top of the fantasy columns, and that is despite the team not playing all that well. Three players were tied for the best receiving day, Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne and Jeremy Shockey. I put Shockey’s smiling face up there since he’s a lowly tight end.

The top fantasy performances in week 10 were:

Quarterback:
Donovan McNabb – Philadelphia Eagles
In 33-25 win over the Washington Redskins

  • 20/28 for 251 yards, 4 TDs.
  • Running Back:
    Brian Westbrook – Philadelphia Eagles
In 33-25 win over the Washington Redskins

  • 20 carries for 100 yards, 1 TD. 5 catches for 83 yards, 2 TDs.
  • Receivers:
Jeremy Shockey – New York Giants
In 31-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys

  • 12 catches for 129 yards, 1 TD.
  • Defense:
    Adewale Ogunleye – Chicago Bears
In 17-6 win over the Oakland Raiders

  • 6 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble.
  • Clunker of the week:
Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers
In 23-21 loss to the Indianapolis Colts

  • 13/24 for 104 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INT, 2 fumbles.
