Last week Russell Wilson lead his team to a victory over New England at home to add to his team’s previous victory over the Green Bay Packers. Those are both games the Seahawks were expected to get blown out in, yet behind Wilson they keep finding ways to win and compete in the NFC West.
You wouldn’t know Wilson wasn’t one of the top two quarterbacks selected in the last NFL Draft. He tossed three touchdowns against the Patriots last week and threw for 293 yards. The game-winner was a 46-yard pass, a necessity considering running back Marshawn Lynch put up his second straight subpar afternoon with 41 yards off 15 carries.
While the Seahawks are struggling to move the ball on the ground of late, their defense has leveled the playing field by being stingy in giving up rushing yards. Heading into tonight’s game, the Seahawks rank second in the league in rushing yards against with 70 per game.
San Francisco will look to crack the Seahawks defense after struggling last week against the New York Giants. Gore is a big threat to break 100 yards every game and in the past has topped 200 against the Seahawks at home. Last week, Gore could only muster 36 yards against the Giants who focused on shutting him down early and often.
Likewise, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will need to recover quickly from the three interceptions he threw last weekend. Smith was on a tear until the Giants snuffed him out, and now must face the league’s fourth-best defense. At least Smith and his teammates can enter tonight’s game knowing their team has topped Seattle the last three meetings.
