Today’s early NFL Sunday Football games feature an intriguing match between the 8-0 undefeated Atlanta Falcons and the 3-5 New Orleans Saints on Fox. On paper it looks like another cakewalk for the Falcons against an inferior opponent. However, the Saints are surging behind Drew Brees and can take another step toward salvaging their season and earn bragging rights for ending the Falcons run at perfection in one swift victory stroke.
Last week the Saints disposed of the struggling Philadelphia Eagles with relative ease to notch their fourth victories in five tries. They have done so without much of a running game, though Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas did manage to combined for 136 rushing yards against the Eagles. The Saints still rank near the bottom of the league in yards gained on the ground.
While the Saints offense struggles to run the ball and their defense gives up a league-worst 176.5 yards-per-game, the Falcons defense hasn’t been much better in yielding 127.5 yards-per-game. Thomas and Ingram should have an opportunity to gain some first downs on the ground, which in turn will open the field for Brees to attack via the air.
The Falcons will counter with Matt Ryan’s air attack that has lead him to the third-highest quarterback ranking in the league with a passing rank of 103. The Saints defense gives up on average a 105 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks this season, so the stars seem aligned for Ryan to reel off a big game down in New Orleans.
Today’s early Sunday NFL Football match between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints kicks off at 1pm EST / 10am PST in high definition on Fox via cable/satellite or free over the air. Though not free, you can watch the official online live streaming version of the game via NFL Sunday Ticket by visiting here.
My prediction for this game is that the Atlanta Falcons will move to 9-0 in an offensive explosions. The New Orleans Saints will get their points, too, but in the end, the Falcons will simply score more. I’m looking for a final score in the neighborhood of 28-24.
