The San Antonio Spurs had dropped all four regular season games against the Oklahoma City Thunder entering Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals series. As the Spurs have proven all season long, they stepped up when it mattered most and obliterated OKC to take a 1-0 series lead headed into tonight’s Game 2.
The Thunder got big games from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook as expected. With Serge Ibaka out due to injury, veteran Tim Duncan had his way inside and scored almost at will against the much smaller Thunder front court. Adjustments will have to be made for OKC to even this series when we watch Thunder vs Spurs online free live streaming NBA basketball on TNT tonight.
Duncan nearly doubled his regular season average scoring output in Game 1 with 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists. A total of five Spurs scored in double-digits, with the lowest of them coming from Tony Parker with 14 points. As a team the Spurs shot 57.5 percent from the field and seemingly couldn’t miss.
Even if Oklahoma City drops Game 2 they won’t be in unfamiliar territory. Back in 2012, OKC lost the first two games against the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals and then rallied to win four in a row to advance to the NBA Finals.
A big key for the Spurs has been the defensive work of Kawhi Leonard on Durant. Leonard held Durant to 1 of 4 shooting in the fourth quarter and forced him into two turnovers. Westbrook was equally as bad in the final frame after leading the Thunder to a lead in the third quarter.
