Tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football game on ESPN stands to be a great one as the 3-0 Miami Dolphins head west to take on the equally 3-0 New Orleans Saints at the Superdome in this final NFL week 4 football game. It’s a battle of undefeated teams on MNF with the victor claiming a stud 4-0 record and joining elite company that includes the Seahawks and Broncos. The Dolphins figured to be one of the last teams many would have picked to be undefeated in week four of the 2013 NFL schedule. Yet here they are, riding quarterback Ryan Tannehill and enjoying their best start as a franchise since 2002. With a win tonight over a tough Saints opponent, they’ll match the 4-0 start put up by the 1995 Dolphins squad; however, that team failed to make the playoffs after finishing the season 9-7. This year’s team hopes to avoid a similar fate.
Tannehill has shrugged off any potential sophomore slump and beaten some of the best quarterbacks in the league thus far this season, including Andrew Luck and Matt Ryan. One of the most impressive stats put up by Tannehill thus far is he has led his offense to seven touchdowns in eight red zone appearances. There are other teams in the league that would give anything for that kind of deadly efficiency against opposing defenses.
With Sean Payton back on the sidelines and calling the shots, the New Orleans Saints have found their defensive rhythm and have one of the best squads in the league this season that has given up less than 300 yards and 12.7 points per game on average. Last season they gave up just over 440 yards per game, so the difference is huge. We’ll find out if they can stop Tannehill tonight as we watch Monday Night Football online free live streaming on ESPN.
On offense, Drew Brees continues to rack up 300-yard passing games and secured his eighth straight such effort against the Cardinals last weekend. Interceptions continue to be a concern for Brees, though he did throw only one last week versus three touchdowns against Arizona. Thus far Miami has shown a knack for defeating top quarterbacks and Brees will mark their biggest challenge yet.
Experience is an important factor in NFL success, and right now Brees has it in spades and Tannehill still has quite a ways to go. Couple that with the Saints playing at home and I think New Orleans escapes with a tight win and stretches their perfect record to 4-0. A 3-1 start for Miami is nothing to sneeze about, and they definitely have the potential to make the playoffs with the talent assembled that we will see tonight via Monday Night Football free live online streaming.
