The Cincinnati Bengals must feel like they are getting a break on Sunday when facing the 2-3 Buffalo Bills and a quarterback with only one NFL start under his belt. With a win the Bengals can move to 4-2, while the Bills can ill afford to drop to 2-4 unless they want to start thinking about picking high in the NFL Draft.
The Bengals entered this season with a defense worth of praise and that squad lived up to the hype last weekend in a 13-6 victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Not only did they manage to beat Brady, but they also snapped the future Hall of Fame quarterback’s impressive 52 consecutive games with a touchdown pass streak. While the Bengals defense ranks up with the best in the league, their offense has been struggling to put points on the board. They rank 25th in the NFL at 18.8 points per game and quarterback Andy Dalton has failed to throw a touchdown pass in his past two starts. If not for a strong defensive showing against the Patriots, the Bengals likely would have lost that game.
One way Dalton can get things going is to look more for wide receiver A.J. Green. After week 1 it looked as if this duo would put up major yards and many touchdowns this season. Between weeks 2 and 5, Green has only caught a single touchdown pass and barely more yards in four games than he hauled in during that first week game.
The Bills will rely on rookie Thad Lewis after the practice squad player was thrust into action when fellow rookie EJ Manuel went down due to injury. His only previous NFL experience came last winter when he went 22 of 32 for a total of 204 yards passing against the Steelers. He also threw a touchdown and an interception in a decent effort, but not enough to secure a win.
The Bengals have already faced Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger this season, so Lewis and his inexperience will be a nice break. With the Cincinnati defense starting to fire on all cylinders and a mystery running the Bills offense, the odds are favorable that the Bengals will indeed move to 4-2.

This game will come down to the Bengals defense facing a rookie quarterback. Unless the Bills can force Andy Dalton and the Bengals offense into numerous totals, there’s no reason Cincinnati will not go to bed tonight with a 4-2 record through six weeks of the NFL schedule.
